Украина “Ukraine twin hose regulator”
Dive into Soviet Innovation: The Evolution of Scuba Gear
In 1956, the Soviet Ministry of Defense Research Institute embarked on a groundbreaking journey into scuba diving technology. This marked the beginning of a new era in underwater exploration for the Soviet Union.
Among the pioneering creations were the iconic double-hose regulators, including the ABM-1M (also known as AVM1), the ABM-3 (known as AVM3), and the Украина (referred to as Ukraine).
By 1957, the Soviet engineers Soldatenkova and Kitaeva introduced the Подводник-1, or Mariner-I (ABM-1), marking the debut of large-scale two-hose regulators. This innovation spurred a significant increase in diving activities, leading to the development of the enhanced Mariner-2 (ABM-1M) model.
The following year, 1958, saw the arrival of the Украина regulator, as the Central Sports Committee established a dedicated body for instructor training and activity standardization. This paved the way for the creation of the Underwater Sports Confederation of the USSR in 1959, further formalizing the sport.
The innovations continued to evolve, and by 1960, the ABM-3, also known as the AVM3, emerged, reflecting the ongoing advancements in Soviet scuba diving equipment.
