Voit, originally a rubber goods manufacturer, expanded into diving gear in the 1950s. The company collaborated with René Bussoz and other pioneers in scuba equipment, allowing them to create innovative designs. By the 1960s, Voit had established itself as a competitor to U.S. Divers, producing regulators that catered to the growing demand for reliable underwater breathing systems.

The Swimaster Trieste debuted in the early 1966, offering a streamlined, single-stage double-hose system. At first glance, this might look like a standard DA Aqua-Master, but take a closer look—there’s no serial number!
That little detail makes this an incredibly rare piece of diving history, nearly impossible to find these days.

The Aqua-Lung DA Aqua-Master was introduced in 1958 as the successor to the DA Navy Type and DA Navy Approved regulators, quickly becoming one of the most iconic regulators ever made. But here’s where it gets interesting—in the very first production run, U.S. Divers didn’t stamp serial numbers on these regulators. These early models featured a blue tab nameplate but lacked serial markings, a feature only seen before serial numbering became standard in 1959.

Currently interstate, but luckily, I’ve also got an Aqua-Lung DA Aqua-Master sitting in the bookcase on display. This particular one is a flat chrome blue label model, complete with its original straight mouthpiece. A small but interesting detail for the collectors—if you look closely, it still has its original plastic clamps! A quick way to tell?
