Nautilus (2024): A Bold Reimagining of a Jules Verne Classic

The 2024 adventure drama series Nautilus brings a fresh perspective to Jules Verne’s timeless novel Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea. Developed by James Dormer, this 10-part epic explores the origin story of the enigmatic Captain Nemo and his legendary submarine.

Plot: Rebellion Beneath the Waves

Set in 1857, Nautilus unfolds during the height of British colonial expansion. The East India Mercantile Company is secretly building a powerful underwater vessel using forced labor in Kalpani, India.

Among the imprisoned engineers is Nemo, a former Indian prince who masterminds the submarine’s engines. Stripped of his royal status, he leads a mutiny, escapes with a diverse crew, and commandeers the Nautilus. Their mission? Seek justice against the oppressive empire.

Throughout the series, they encounter underwater marvels, monstrous creatures, and relentless pursuers in a gripping tale of resistance and survival.

Production: Filmed on Location in Australia

Filming took place at Village Roadshow Studios on the Gold Coast, Queensland, beginning in February 2022. Key scenes were also shot at Brisbane’s Old Museum and the Queensland Parliament House.
