Siebe Gorman “Surface Demand” MK11 #2368

Surface Demand MK11.The double hose MK-II Surface Demand regulator was a single stage regulator that used a full face mask and was fed air through a surface air source.
In addition to La Spirotechnique and Dräger, the British company Siebe & Gorman Ltd. one of the European veterans of diving technology, but similar to Dräger with a focus on professional diving technology and armaments. The Saxon exile August Siebe (Gorman was his son-in-law) developed the open helmet diving suit in England since 1819 and presented a closed helmet diving suit in 1838. This construction was manufactured in large numbers over decades and was in use well into the 20th century.

SignificanceDivers working underwater need a dependable demand valve or regulator that can not only control the delivery of air from the diver’s cylinders but also reduce and balance the air so that it compensated for the pressure of the water around them. The Merlin Mark VI was the demand valve of choice for Royal Navy and commercial and scientific divers in the 1960s.
